“So how DO you stay focused?”

someone asked in response to a post on LinkedIn the other day.

Here is my reply:

Apart from being a bit of a pitbull ? i.e. when I I think something is worth creating I won't easily let go of it ..

?.. it takes a lot to convince me that something really isn't possible. I usually assume I've just not seen the solution yet.

?Expectations .. I don't expect to get things right first time round, I understand it's a creative process that likely requires a few iterations to bring an idea to life.

?The power of support .. we can get dragged down by gloomy thoughts but others can see the BS a mile away and set our head straight.

?The power of progress .. I know that progress, no matter how small, is addictive so I keep taking the next tiny step no matter what's going on around me

?The power of the fu*& it moment ? letting go of what we think is at stake, recognizing that what we think failure (or success) would mean is just a story

It all comes down to a simple equation really

busy mind = overthinking = distracted
quiet mind = creative flow = focus

and yes, we always experience both – they're flowing and transient -, you just get a whole lot more done in flow ?

How do YOU stay focused?

.. so you stick around long enough for your efforts to pay off.
