How long it takes to build a business depends on a lot of different factors. What if getting to a certain level of success faster wasn't necessarily better?
Welcome back to another episode of the pet peeve series 🙂 Today I want to look at ..
How long it really takes to build a business.
The short answer .. it depends .. It really does depend on so many different factors.
The thing is we’re bombarded with case studies of people who did one launch and made a million bucks, people who offered their product or service on their facebook page and sold out in 48 hours.
We’re sold programs that promise to get our business to 6 figures in 6 or 12 weeks.
There are really two things about that I want to challenge ..
My own experience and the stories of all the people I’ve spoken to for the Passion Business Podcast (no exceptions) show that it usually takes a lot longer to build a business, to turn an initial idea into a business that generates a stable income that pays all the bills.
And unrealistic expectations aren’t helpful
It’s so easy to get sucked into the rabbit hole of self-doubt and frustration.
Momentum, progress, inspired action is what’s needed but that’s found on the other end of the scale.
I’m not saying it can’t ever be quick. But it often is a matter of when you start the counter.
Yes, I’ve seen fellow coaches and online service providers post their first offer and sell out. The bit they don’t talk about is that they might have been producing daily content for a year and built an audience that’s happy to jump at their offer when it comes out.
I also know people who start working for themselves offering the same service they did when they were employed. They often get their business off the ground quickly because their ex boss and colleagues end up being their first clients, and they already know and trust each other.
Ex CEOs turned consultants have a large network of people who want and can purchase their services at prices other people find hard to achieve.
It also depends on other factors ..
Some have a partner who is happy to pay for tools, coaching or whatever makes progress faster, others are single parents with no support at all
Some people look after kids, partners or parents, others have just their own agenda to worry about ..
Bottom line – it’s not a race.
There is no point comparing yourself to other people who seem (for all you know) to be in a similar situation
And the other question I want to raise ..
What’s the rush? Is faster really better?
You don’t try and make a child grow faster..
What if you allowed your business to grow in an organic way, at the pace that fits in with the rest of your life.
If there is a sense of rush or urgency, what is it you think business success will give you? And is that really something your business can offer?
Most people, when asked that question, mention .. Freedom, fulfilment, satisfaction, abundance. What if that was the place to come from not to get to?
Let me know what comes up for you .. talk to you soon.
